| The lives of Master Artists
were frequently as strange and prolific as the art they created.
Often on the brink of poverty or in trouble with the government,
yesterday's masters struggled to keep food on the table, ink on
their canvases and sanity in their spirits. Dying penniless and
broken was not uncommon and very rarely, and for the most part only
until this past century, was an artist ever recognized for his work
during their life time. From Van Gogh's famous bouts with depression
and his eventual suicide, to Da Vinci's ongoing battles with the
Catholic Church, the personality of these Masters were difficult
to ignore and often led to lives of intense conflict and passion.
